CompTrain is on a new track. This website is a wiki (and replaces the old static site), which means that anyone can add content (a password may be added later). Please add your ideas so we can build a rich website for the Composition Program at UC Denver.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

The Composition Program Guide contains information on Program Outcomes, Portfolio Requirements, Program Textbooks, Required Syllabi & Portfolio Information, and Assessment. I've also included some of this information as separate pages for your easy reference (Textbooks, Syllabi & Portfolio Reqts, Assessment). It is available in PDF and DOC formats:




The pages on this wiki are organized according to the program outcomes. Please click a link below to access more information about the outcomes, including ideas for assignments and activities specific to each outcome.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES

  1. Purposeful Writing. Student writing successfully addresses academic and non-academic audiences by adopting clear and consistent purposes, as well as appropriate organization, tone, and format, according to genre.
  2. Revision & Writing Process. Students produce multiple drafts. Student writing demonstrates careful revision in response to commentary from peers (when relevant) and the instructor.
  3. Argument & Analysis. Students write persuasively and analytically. Student writing contains convincing arguments and is supported with evidence.
  4. Critical Reading. Students read to inquire, learn, think, and communicate. Student writing demonstrates understandings of assigned readings, and when requested, incorporates outside readings.
  5. Rhetorical Knowledge. Student writing meaningfully engages with writing, language, and/or rhetoric-related topics.
  6. Research. Student writing evidences understandings of citation and website validity, and avoids plagiarism. At the intermediate level, student writing integrates credible academic research.
  7. Technology & Multimodality. Students function in electronic writing spaces, and use technology to compose, revise, and present their writing. At the intermediate level, students analyze and/or produce visual, audio, and online texts, while working half-time in computer classrooms.

HOW TO ADD CONTENT TO THIS WIKI
This wiki will only work if we all add assignments and activities. For now, the site is open for anyone to add content, and if that becomes a problem, I'll add passwords. Here's how to add content:

  1. Go to the page where you want to add content (Argument & Analysis, Assignments, etc.).
  2. Click on the word "EDIT." It will be up to the right on your screen.
  3. A window will open full-screen, with all the contents of the page. Go to where you want to add content, and hit "Link" to add a hyperlink, or "File" to add a .doc, .pdf, or picture-file. (Avoid deleting the content of others.)
  4. Be sure to label the file as something that people will understand. You may need to go back and re-name your file.
  5. Please place all related materials in one file. That is, if you have a pre-assignment and an assignment, please condense to one file.
  6. Hit "Save." If you need to re-edit, hit "EDIT" again.
